So about six months ago I picked up my family and moved all five of us from Australia to America. That’s a long way, right?! And to make it even more fun we didn’t really bring anything with us but what you can fit in two suitcases on a Qantas Jet.
As a result, when we arrived in the States, we really had to start from scratch. We bought a car. We bought furniture. We slept on the floor until we bought beds – and I’m sure you get the picture.
And of course, we bought a TV, a Blu-ray DVD player and speakers for our living room. There was just one problem – we didn’t have any DVDs to watch!
Creating a Library
I should also mention that I have children aged 2, 6 and 8. On top of that, I’m somewhat of a TV and movie buff – having produced my own TV show back in Australia. I’m into it!
So I set about building a complete DVD library from scratch. I decided to start with the classics, buying box sets where I could to save money. I mean it makes sense to buy all of the Harry Potter movies at once rather than one buy one – you get a huge saving, right?!
I looked online and amazingly couldn’t find a web site that gave me a definitive list of the best box sets for my new DVD library.
Starting this site
And so, in an inspired moment, I decided to create this site. The intention is to review the best box sets available today from classics to the brand spanking new to furnish your own DVD library as I have built mine.
Buying them Online
Of course the site wouldn’t be complete if you couldn’t buy the actual box sets, right?! I gotta tell you, I looked around a lot before I settled on the one place I’d actually trust to buy everything from. And of course, I wanted the best possible price.
In the end, I settled on Amazon. I became an Amazon affiliate, too – so I’d appreciate it if you use the links on this site to buy your box sets – that would really help me out.
The reason I liked Amazon came down to this. Amazon has a great blend of
- great prices
- total trust
- a bullet-proof returns policy, and
- Amazon Prime.
What is Amazon Prime?
Amazon Prime is the best thing ever if you like free shipping and loads of stuff turning up in the mail. From what I understand you can only get it in America although they ship everywhere. Once we moved to America we got an annual membership to Amazon Prime which set us back $79.
Here’s what we got – free 2-day courier shipping for everything we ever buy on Amazon.
Shipping and handling prices begone! We’ve never looked back. You do have to make sure you search on Amazon Prime items because some items aren’t included in the program.
You can click here for your own Amazon Prime membership if you like. And did I mention you get a huge bunch of free streaming movies thrown in – just like Netflix? It’s a true bargain.
Anyway, it means we now get free shipping on everything from the putty I buy to stick charts up on the wall (which costs about $1.50 all up now) to my daughter’s new pink bike. Everything!
Anyway – I hope you have as much fun with this site as I’m having making it happen. I hope to give you an amazing selection of the world’s best box sets from television to movies to music. I hope to span every genre from action to comedy and family movies to classical albums. If it’s good then it has a place on this site.
